Backyard Bible Clubs are an easy, exciting, and effective Missions Trip idea. Groups of any experience level can put on a Backyard Bible Club. There are three main elements to planning a Backyard Bible Club: Promotion, Location, and Materials.
Promotion
Prior to your comming to our church for your West Virginia Missions Trip, we will promote your event online, on social media, and in the neighborhood. Each neighborhood has different policies and platforms for sharing the neighborhood happenings so this will vary a little neighborhood to neighborhood. If we have a church member or a contact in the neighborhood, they will assist us in personally inviting kids to come to the event. A personal invite is the best promotion we can ask for!
Your Missions Team will arrive at the site early and invite the neighborhood kids again after you have set up your site. Once the kids begin to arrive, you will dive into all of the fun, exciting activities and Bible stories your group has planned for the Backyard Bible Club.
Location
Location, location, location… any neighborhood that is walkeable is a great location for a Backyard Bible Club. Some of the most common locations include campgrounds, backyards, parks, and the beach (lake). The closest campgrounds to our church are at Grandview National Park and Little Beaver State Park. These locations are both great options as there are visitors as well as locals enjoying West Virginia’s Natural Resources. Little Beaver State Park also has a small lake where you could conduct a beach Backyard Bible Club. In addition to this, there are many neighborhoods that make great locations for a Backyard Bible Club in the Shady District.
Materials
Lifeway Christian Bookstore has a variety of Backyard Bible Club Materials to choose from. We ask that you choose a theme for your Mission Team that differs from the VBS theme for the year so that the kids can experience a new theme at the Backyard Bible Club. Lifeway materials cover everything from promotion to implementation of your Backyard Bible Club.
Some additional materials to consider are puppets, clown outfits, clown make-up, balloon animals, table cloths, decorations (outdoor), craft materials, and sports equipment.
Remember, this is an opportunity to show God’s love and share the Gospel with children. This is our focus during a Backyard Bible Club!
