Keeping all the “Christmas” Events Straight

It can be hard to keep up with all the “Christmas” events that are happening at First Southern Baptist Church of Grandview. Christmas in August, LoveLoud Christmas Backpacks, Operation Christmas Child… which is which?

Christmas in August is an event in partnership with WMU. Our church is collecting items throughout the month of August that our sponsor missionary needs to spread the Gospel. Youth, GA’s, RA’s and Mission Friends have a special event coming up towards the end of the month where they will get to participate in Christmas in August for the very first time. If you know exactly what they are doing, don’t tell… it’s a suprise! 🙂

LoveLoud Christmas Backpacks is a ministry of NAMB through Appalachian Regional Ministry. We are partnering with ARM to raise 250 backpacks to give to impoverished youth and children in our area. These backpacks are filled with school supplies, hygiene items, food, a new toy, clothing, a Bible or a New Testament and “The Christmas Story”. These are made for ages 2-4, 5-9, and 10-14. First Southern Baptist Church of Grandview also has a follow up event for LoveLoud Christmas Backpacks. We are currently driving for coats, blankets and food.

Operation Christmas Child is a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse. The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Operation Christmas Child uses shoeboxes filled with toys, school supplies, non-liquid hygiene items and clothing items to meet both a physical and spiritual need. Every time a child is handed a shoe box, they hear the gospel. As a church, we are driving for items monthly to meet our goal of 50 shoe boxes. Our children and youth programs will pack these shoe boxes in November at their packing party. This is a great way for kids to participate in missions work. In addition to this, our church is now a Drop Off Location for Operation Christmas Child! National Collection Week is November 16th-23rd, 2015.

We hope this post helps you keep up with all the “Christmas” activities going on at First Southern Baptist Church of Grandview. Here is a recap just in case:

  1. Christmas in August is with WMU for a missionary family we are sponsoring. This event is in August.
  2. LoveLoud Christmas Backpacks is a local ministry through our partnership with ARM. This event is in late November/early December. This helps us feed and cloth local children and youth who are in need.
  3. Operation Christmas Child is an international ministry through Samaritan’s Purse. We are driving for monthly items as a church. Our youth and children are participating in a packing party in November. Our church is a Drop Off Site serving the Shady District during National Collection Week November 16-23, 2015.
The “Christmas” events at First Southern Baptist Church of Grandview are three different ministries all sharing the gospel in a different way!
